“Adults are only kids grown up.” - Walt Disney
There are so many other things that childhood has taught me but what I wish to leave here for pondering is the fact that childhood - it's lessons, experiences, and memories - will always be a part of us. Whether we like it or not, our childhood shapes who we are today. I will always be grateful for the times that taught me resilience and kindness. These moments helped me realize the type of adult I wanted to be. One that was kind, strong, and who never forgot how to have fun.
Childhood is complicated. It's not one clear-cut picture but a collage of little moments that slowly reveal who we'll be. When we look back, it's important to note that those concerns with not "being old enough" will seem so small. There were times where it felt frustrating to not be "taken seriously" but we had something that some adults lose- a way of looking at the world with wonder. Now that I've had a chance to reflect on my childhood I've discovered little ways of gaining that perspective back - from enjoying the little moments of my everyday life to making the most of new experiences - the world looks a bit brighter when looking at it this way.
I still have a long road ahead of me - filled with trial and error, growth, and lessons to learn. But that's the beauty of growing up - it's a continuous journey. So, for now, I am going to take everything in knowing that, someday, these moments will shape the person I'll be in the future.
