Time

Tick, tick, tick…

That sound would play on repeat when I was little. The silence between every tick felt longer and longer. Time moved slowly. The clock in the classroom moved at its own speed no matter how many times I looked at it. Waiting for time to catch up with me; Waiting to be that next year older; waiting for that clock to hurry up because I was ready.

I didn’t need to be a “kid” anymore. I had so many dreams and I thought I was ready to put my childhood behind me. With each movement of the hands, I waited. Waited for “someday.”

Now the clock moves faster - or maybe I do. There’s not enough “ticks” in a day to meet all of my deadlines or complete my tasks for the day. With each chime of the clock another minute goes. Another chance to get something done is gone.

I find myself still rushing. Although now it’s to keep up with time. That ticking that once felt slow now slips through my fingers.

I’ve come across so many opportunities that I dreamt of as a kid. I have accomplished things that I wanted to when I was younger.

But sometimes I wish I could tell my younger self that time moves slow for a reason. Soak in every moment. Keep those big dreams about growing up but don’t forget to be a kid too.

and think me naive,

but I notice the small things

they’ll never see.

To me my age

is just a number on paper.

The things I can do

are all so much greater!"
